Printer Overview

The iSLM300 Ultimate configuration features an IPG Photonics fiber laser, while the iSLM300 configuration is equipped with a Max Photonics fiber laser.

The iSLM300 is an industrial 3D Printer focused on producing intricate and precision-demanding parts. With a scanning speed of up to 10.000mm/sec and the ability to finely adjust layer thickness from 0.02 to 0.15mm, this printer offers great control over part quality. Its considerable build size of 300mm by 300mm by 400mm allows for the creation of larger components or simultaneous production of multiple parts, greatly improving production rates.

For manufacturing components like the conformable water channel mold from mold steel (18Ni300), the iSLM300’s capabilities are particularly beneficial. This mold is engineered to match the cavity geometry closely, which optimizes the uniformity of the temperature field during the molding process. By improving thermal consistency, the mold significantly reduces cooling time and enhances the overall cooling effect. This leads to a reduction in warpage and deformation of the finished product.

Printing in SLM

SLM is a 3D printing technology that uses metallic powder to print metal objects instantly.

During printing, a coating mechanism (the recoater) spreads a layer of metallic powder on the printing plate and a powerful laser beam selectively melts the powder of the current layer. After the fusion is complete, the printing platform is moved down one layer, and the process is repeated until the entire object is fused. The whole process is carried out in a chamber, with a shielding gas, to prevent the metal from reacting with other gases at high temperatures.

The main advantage of SLM technology is that it offers many new options in manufacturing metal parts, such as geometric freedom in design, weight reduction, flexibility in prototyping, and speed in producing metal objects in small quantities.
